The introduction to this book is an excellent description of the film making process. In Diner, there was pressure from the studio to cut the first scene in the Diner because it was just the guys chatting and didn't push the story forward. The film is called Diner. It introduces those four guys. It's the reason for seeing the film. Why would you cut it out? Makes you wonder how many times the execs got their way and similar scenes went south ruining the film's they're in ...
