My first by the author. Very funny. ;-)

Here's the blurb:

Charlene Dugan started her day as usual -- single. Then, all in the space of a few hours:

Her daughter announced she doesn't want to "end up like her"
Her absentminded mother got lost in a parking lot

Her ex-husband accused her of being afraid of commitment

Now her decision to utter those three little words -- let's get married -- has everyone around her in a tailspin. The maid of honor is in a tempest over a man of fifteen years her junior. Her daughter, the official bridesmaid, has decided to reinvent herself. The groom is spending all of his free time with the wedding consultant. And her ex-husband, a man who still drives her crazy, is making some pretty convincing arguments for a second chance.

The wedding party is out of control, they're calling for rain and the bride has cold feet. This isn't exactly what Charlene had in mind.

Woo hoo! The bookray book arrived today! I am looking forward to getting to it very soon!

Update 10-18-03
Well, I finished the book several days ago. It had been slow going in the beginning. I just didn't find myself really caring much about the characters. I was content to read a few pages here and there while riding on the subway to school. Somewhere in the middle of the book it picked up for me, and I noticed that I was just wanting to read more and more. In the end, I didn't love the book or get any great insights from it. It's just not that type of book. It was a pleasurable read, if a little predictable. I'll be dropping this in the mail to MsPooh on Monday morning!

Thanks so much. This book will be next up.

~~~Hm, I thought this was cute, in a sappy sort-of way.
Off to the next reader, ShyAnn, real soon
I just received this in the mail today, from MsPooh:)
I am hoping to start reading it tonight, so that I can move it along to the next person on the list....
11-29-03: I agree with MsPooh....the book was cute in a silly sort of way.
It was not at all what I expected. I actually expected the story to take off on more of a 'nothing-is-going-right-way, due to weather, flu-bug, or OMGosh! Where is my bride's-maid???......
Instead, I felt it took us on a more serious/emotional path, such as "I need to grow up," "I'm afraid to commit," "It should not matter what other people think," etc.....
For me, the highlight of the book, is the custody battle over "Frankie!" Hmm....not to sound twisted, but I found a bit of humor in the unfortunate outcome, LOL!
I will be sending this off to spaceystacey in today's mail:)
(The odd thing is...as long as the book took to travel here, it's packaging was in perfect condition...so obviously it didn't suffer too much!!)
A bookring! I was so confused when this showed up at my house. "I don't remember trading for this!" I got it now. I'll probably get to it next week during Spring Break. But right now I have finals week to deal with. :-)
Journal Entry 13 by Jas330 from Lakewood, Washington USA on Thursday, March 25, 2004
Finished this book today. It was really good, and hard to put down. I don't really think that it should have been called "The Wedding Party" - I mean the first four chapters or so really focused on the wedding, but after that, it was more like the life of "Charlene Dugan" - not anything else. Obviously the wedding was an underlying theme the entire way through, but...still.
And what's with the cat on the front cover, they don't talk about a cat the entire story.
I felt kind of left hanging about the one girl - with the 2 kids. I guess either I didn't get how they wrapped it up or they didn't.
Anyways, I'll send this off ASAP.
Received today...absolutely didn't remember signing up for this one, oh well! I am going on vacation next week, this looks like a good one to read while on vacation.
Very cute story. I enjoyed reading it, a breath of light fiction for the summer.
On its way to talkland tomorrow!
This is the third book ray I have had this week!
Journal Entry 17 by talkland from Eastbourne, East Sussex United Kingdom on Wednesday, September 29, 2004
I enjoyed the story but it was the sort that I could dip in and out of. It has been my train book for the week and it definitely wasn't one of those book that I was desperate to be able to pick up again. It was an enjoyable well-written read.
Journal Entry 18 by jalna from Wrexham, Wales United Kingdom on Thursday, October 14, 2004
The book reached me this morning. It's been around a while and it was interesting reading all the previous journal entries.
As I am finding my current book rather heavy going, I shall probably fit this one in at the same time and I don't think it will be too long before I am ready to send it on its way.
Journal Entry 19 by jalna from Wrexham, Wales United Kingdom on Thursday, October 21, 2004
When I first started reading this my heart sank as I thought "Ugh! What amateurish writing - did someone really get paid for writing this?" Now whether the writing improved or I got used to it I don't know, but I ended up really enjoying the story, although it was a bit light and - as someone else has said - predictable.
Call me hard-hearted, but I was highly amused by the outcome of the Frankie storyline, even though I could see it coming.
As for the title, I think it is actually quite clever, as it has a double meaning. In one way, it refers, I think, to the little dinner party where the ladies got together and things rather came to a head; on the other hand there is the other meaning of party, referring to all the leading characters in the wedding scenario and the book is their story.
I'll be sending it on to Nikel27 in Germany as soon as I have her address.
Journal Entry 20 by nikel27 from -- Irgendwo / Somewhere --, Hessen Germany on Wednesday, October 27, 2004
arrived safe at my house, but I have 7 more bookring/ray's to read before I can start here....
I'm so sorry! I received this a while ago and I thought I had journalled it, but there might have been something going on with the site that day, and it just slipped my mind later that I hadn't journalled it.
I've just finished reading it, and I agree that it's a nice, light, at times fun, book to read. But I don't know, I just didn't really like the characters all that much. The author sort of tries to make everyone seem like a hero, a good guy, as if the mistakes they made were excusable and in fact, commendable...it seems that way a little. So while the characters were probably meant to be likable, I didn't like them all that much. :P It's still an enjoyable read, especially after a hard day's work and all you want to do is sit down and read a simple book. :D
Thanks for sharing! I'll PM the next person in line for their address and send it out asap!
