Ok, so maybe it took the book a while to find it's way to the Netherlands, and maybe it got lost somewhere in michmaarufas house, but that doesn't matter cause here it is! I got it in the mail this week. This week I'll be going to Denmark to visit some friends. It's a very thin book so I hope to finish it before I get back.
Thanks Majosim, thanks michmaarufa.

I had never read anything by Oscar Wilde (and figured short stories might be an easy way to start) and I have been very pleasantly surprised. I really liked the stories, especialy the title story 'Lord Arthur Savile's crime'. Wildes writing style is very smooth and very funny. His stories are also a critical account of British upper circles in the nineteenth century.
The writing style reminded me of Roald Dahl (who has also written a lot of short stories which I would gladly recommend to anyone), although it is probably the other way around: Dahl reminds me of Wilde.

A very pleasant read. I'll send the book on it's way as soon as I receive Caracas' address.
(edit: Caracas didn't reply so I sent the book to Leseschaf instead)

Thanks tijgetje for sending and especially for your nice card.

Thanks Majosim for sharing this nice book. I really enjoy reading Oscar Wilde. Here it was especially The Canterville Ghost (which I already knew from a German audiobook, but it's much better in English) and The Model Millionaire. I gave up reading by the last story "Portrait of Mr. W.H." - not yet sure because of the my little understanding. That's what I really didn't like: knowing that I can't understand all the little nice word games, allutions, hints ...
I hope I can send the book on Wednesday to labmonmn - but I'll edit this post, when the book's gone.

I just got this in the mail today. I have a couple of rings/rays in front of this one, but it is a short stories book, so I'll read a story along my other readings. Thanks for sharing this!

Update 9/02/05
teenage-faerie stated on her profile that she is no longer interested in bookcrossing and would like to be skipped from all rings and rays. I contacted Amaranta20 today to get an address and get thsi book moving as soon as possible.

Journal Entry 21 by Ilios from Tampa, Florida USA on Sunday, September 11, 2005
I am almost done with this book. Of all the stories, The Canterbury Ghost, The Sphinx without a Secret, and The Model Millionaire are my favorites. I read The Portrait of Dorian Grey a long time ago and found Wilde's writing very rich and enthralling. These short stories were more humorous than that novel, and I thoroughly enjoyed Wilde's dry wit. ;o) I will be mailing this book to the next BXer tomorrow.

This arrived right when I was moving house. Sorry it took so long to journal. I'm looking forward to the read.

Journal Entry 24 by Amaranta20 from Seattle, Washington USA on Saturday, March 4, 2006
Sorry for stalling the ray. I'll be sending it off to the next person as soon as I get her address.

I'm a fan of Oscar Wilde (adore The Picture of Dorian Gray) and I quite liked this book. I had read the title story before but it was a long time ago and I liked re-reading it. The rest were new to me. I thought the W.H. one was very interesting. I think it must be Oscar Wilde's way of putting forth a theory he created but was unwilling to publish as a scholarly paper himself, because he included so many passionate proofs and I otherwise don't see the point of writing the story. It was very interesting though. I enjoyed the theory and wished it were true because it's so romantic.
