Bel Canto

I picked up this book because the premise seemed interesting, a group of wealthy and influential people held hostage by rebels. What I found was a lyrical novel full of of the life stories and musings of the different characters. Faced in these extreme conditions, people have the opportunity to see their lives for what they are and what they are not. The ending came along as a jolt -- not that it was a surprise but it just seemd too trite. In fact, I think the too tidy ending could have been removed. Still a wonderful read that spans people of different cultures, political views and economic status.
