I enjoyed this. Didn't particularly expect to, as my friend told me she found it homophobic, but I did.
I got completely sucked into watching the siuatation as it unfolded, like how you can't help from turning towards a car-crash. Barbara is such a creepy villain - a devious power-crazed freak but written in a brilliantly subtle way. The very last scene is haunting, it's so under-stated, but utterly utterly vile. A dark and sinister and gripping book, which comes recommended.

Off it goes...
I'd seen the film before reading this and I wasn't sure about reading the book as a result. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. It is definitely a book you find yourself reflecting on for a while afterwards. Barbara is the subtley sinister and manipulative villain portrayed in the film but for some reason I sympathised with Sheba less in the book, although it becomes apparent that Barbara's version of events may be more unkind than it is accurate...I don't want to give too much away for future readers. Enjoy the read!
