I loved the very well written short stories of this book. I enjoyed the sense of remembrance of Boston and Filene's Basement in one of the stories. "When Mr Pirzada came to Dine" was interesting in how it dealt with friendships which arose in the USA which never would have happened in India because of the war leading towards the separation of states. "A Real Dirwan" was sad in that poor old Boori Ma, who was prone to exaggeration was eventually blamed for bad events in the house where she was allowed to sleep for keeping the staircases clean. The story of the name of the book was an interesting insight into people's personalities. The Das family returned to India for a visit and Mrs Das became impressed with their driver when she heard he worked for a doctor interpreting people's illnesses. She told him her life story while her family were tourists and when he gave her advice she did not want to hear, her opinion changed and she dismissed him as nothing.
