HERE IS A SMALL FACT - YOU ARE GOING TO DIE. 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier. Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This is her story and the story of the inhabitants of her street when the bombs begin to fall. SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION - THIS NOVEL IS NARRATED BY DEATH. It's a small story, about: a girl, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. ANOTHER THING YOU SHOULD KNOW - DEATH WILL VISIT THE BOOK THIEF THREE TIMES

Thanks! This looks interesting. There was a time when I read a lot about jews, but it has been a bit quiet on that front lately. And none of them stole books. Will try to read this soon.

I tried to read this, but stopped on page 40. The writer isn't getting anywhere and has this annoying habit of breaking the text with special notes - is he trying to be artistic or what? The plot is forced and how this has become an International Bestseller is beyond reason.
Definately available, will take it to a meeting as it is rather big for posting.

Left towards Turku with Pippis. Hopefully you'll like it more than I did.

Like I said at the meet-up, I cannot resist WW2 books, whether fictional or f.ex. biographies. Even though my Mt. TBR is dangerously resembling the Leaning Tower of Pisa, I decided to check the book out. Thanks for circulating it!
