Two very nice dramatisations of classic crime fiction. The Long Goodbye seemed vaguely familiar - I think I might have seen the movie, but ages ago, I didn't remember that much. This will travel with me to London soon.

Arrived here safely today. How very lovely, the BBC Radio Collection - I'm thrilled!

Journal Entry 10 by JudySlump612 at Minneapolis, Minnesota USA on Tuesday, January 10, 2012
I feel a bit helpless sitting down to write a journal entry for this collection, because some of the previous readers liked it a lot, and footymadgill paid good money to ship it to me as a gift. So it would seem like a slap in all your faces to dismiss it. Well, so be it. I apologize in advance.

Chandler has never been one of my favourite authors, and hearing two stories in a row really shows how formulaic and predictable he is. Listening to them in a group could make a good drinking game. Some female throws herself at Marlowe - have a drink! Marlowe gets roughed up by the cops - have a drink! A family secret is revealed - have a drink! By the end of both stories, no one would be sober enough to stand up and turn off the player.

Obviously, for me this is simply a complete NMCOT (Not My Cup Of Tea). However, the BBC full-cast production was as brilliant here as it always is. The delivery and the various accents were flawless and delightful, and I truly enjoyed listening to the cassettes. It wasn't until finishing that I saw this as the audio equivalent of cotton candy: lots of presentation, not much substance.

But that's just one person's opinion. Future listeners, what do YOU think of this?
