Brilliant book - I gave another copy of this a thumping 10 without demur - that is one of those books that really should be read by everybody.
The migration to California of dispossessed share-croppers in the Great Depression, and the brutal shattering of their dreams, is told through the eyes of the Joad family.
On its way to one who has wished for it, by way of the Not So Secret Easter Bunny.

Thanks very much SwanOfKennet! I think I'll like this one.
Wow this is one hell of a grim, unrelenting read. Even when the going is starting to get slightly better for the Joad family every now and again, the reader knows that this is simply a mirage of happiness which will soon be dissipated. It's outstandingly written though, and very emotive. Probably not one I'll read a second time, but I'll remember it for year and years.
