UPDATE: 1/22/04 ... my apologies for being so slow on this. I have just begun this book. I've been flooded with book rings/rays and am finally to this one! Thanks for your patience.
2/2/04....I'm sending this on to Caligula03 before I'm even halfway through. Life is getting too hectic and I don't want to hold this up any longer!

The Secret Garden continues to be one of my favorite books. This particular edition comes with a wonderful introduction with a history of the book's printing and some biographical information about Frances Hodgson Burnett. I had no idea that The Secret Garden was another product of a Long Island writer. Given that the story takes place in India and England, I always assumed that the author was British but it turns out that although she had spent time in Kent, the book was written in the States! I also learned that it had been serialized in American Magazine and that's where the annotations come in handy as they track the editorial differences between the novel and the serialized versions. This version enriched my overall appreciation, enjoyment and understanding of the novel.
