I can't remember now how this book came my way. I read some Moorcock during my teens, I vaguely remember some of the Elric books but I never came across these books. In fact I hadn't really realised quite what a prolific writer Moorcock was.
At just under 580 pages in total these four books would have been quite short, almost novellas, as separate volumes. As a whole they make a very decent novel although there are clear indications in places of the fact that they were written as seperate entities.
The writing has clear connections with the 'pulp' literature that Moorcock would have been influenced by in his earlier life. However the fate of some of the major characters was not at all what I expected. Overall I found this much more enjoyable than some other 60's fantasy which I have read recently.

I passed this on to a friend who has said in the oast that he enjoys Michael Moorcock. He says that his brother would probably like to read it too. Don't particularly expect a journal entry from either of them but maybe I'll hear back from this book at some time further down the line.
