With David Macauley's wonderful book, Cathedral, I bought this as a Christmas present this just past year. I didn't know it, but noticed it had won the Caldecott award for illustration. Reading through the book, it didn't quite fit any of the gift recipients on my list so I set the book aside for bookcrossing. This is a delightful story in four parts that connect visually. Macauley is a designer and scholar who writes and illustrates wonderful books on architecture and engineering design. All of his books are an inspiration. This one is dear and intimate, a complex but compelling portrait of family love.

Curiously, though this won the Caldecott Award for book illustration, there are not many copies in bookcrossing. This is a really lovely visually-told story. I'm sending it to Paul's Pass-Along books, which promotes children's literacy, in memory of Paul, to celebrate his birthday next month.
