I wanted to like this book, considering all the great reviews it received, but I couldn't get into it. I hope the next person gets something more out of it!

Arrived yesterday. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Hopefully I will!

Well, it just goes to show that it's all subjective. I loved this!

OK, so it's bleak. Really bleak. Bleak, bleak, bleak, bleak, bleak, bleak, bleak. And did I mention that it's bleak. And horrific. In the parts it's not bleak, it's utterly horrific. Or depressing. So it's bleak, horrific and depressing. But I found it gut-wrenchingly suspenseful too. I don't normally get nervous reading books, but parts of this terrified me. There were moments that were the equivalent of those bits in horror films where you feel like screaming at the screen, 'Don't go into the cellar!' Somehow, the author pulls off the trick creating an atmosphere of tension on every page.

Ended up reading this again for my creative writing course, and enjoyed it the second time round too. Obviously, the suspense wasn't quite there this time, but I could appreciate the language more and the way there isn't really a wasted word in this book. It's still bleak mind.
