The bids kept coming at him from the air, silent save for the beating wings. The terrible, fluttering wings. He could feel the blood on his hands, his wrists, his neck. Each stab of a swooping beak tore his flesh. If only he could keep them from his eyes. Nothing else mattered.

Interesting story, in which all kinds of birds start to attack human beings. Due to some hints in the plot, the attacks seem to take place in all parts of the world and are linked to flood and tide.
I did not know, that this story was the reason for Hitchcock's movie, however the movie is more positive than the story by Daphne du Maurier. The story ends abruptly without showing the solution to the disaster.
