Atonement

By the end of that day the lives of all three will have been changed for ever. Robbie and Cecilia will have crossed a boundary they had not even imagined at its start, and will have become victims of the younger girls imagination. Briony will have witnessed mysteries, and committed a crime for which she will spend the rest of her life trying to atone.'

Once again a big thank you Danielle for helping me out with this one :-)
I loved the film; quite curious about the novel.
Thanks for sharing it!

I really liked it; besides being beautifully written, it has a very unusual twist of plot (I won't give it away), so what begins as a regular novel becomes something entirely different.
A misunderstanding can change many lives in different ones...
I loved all characters, particularly the female ones, so well depicted and credible.
A quotation:
"She (a thirteen-year old Bryony, a writer-to-be) need not judge. There did not have to be a moral. She need only show separate minds, as alive as her own, struggling with the idea that other minds were equally alive. It wasn't only wickedness and scheming that made people unhappy, it was confusion and misunderstanding, above all, it was the failure to grasp the simple truth that other people are as real as you. And only in a story could you enter these different minds and show how they had an equal value. That was the only moral a story need have."
Thanks for sharing this one with us, Jozebedee, and thanks for helping out, Danielle23; I have Marcenda's address, and it will continue its way towards Portugal.
By the way, the film based on ths book is very, very good: See pic with Keira and "that" beautiful green dress... I recommend it.
Happy New Year 2010!
