In this Jane Austen-inspired comedy, love story, and exploration of identity and destiny, a modern LA girl wakes up as an Englishwoman in Austen's time.
After nursing a broken engagement with Jane Austen novels and Absolut, Courtney Stone wakes up and finds herself not in her Los Angeles bedroom or even in her own body, but inside the bedchamber of a woman in Regency England. Who but an Austen addict like herself could concoct such a fantasy?
Not only is Courtney stuck in another woman's life, she is forced to pretend she actually is that woman; and despite knowing nothing about her, she manages to fool even the most astute observer. But not even her love of Jane Austen has prepared Courtney for the chamber pots and filthy coaching inns of nineteenth-century England, let alone the realities of being a single woman who must fend off suffocating chaperones, condomless seducers, and marriages of convenience. Enter the enigmatic Mr. Edgeworth, who fills Courtney's borrowed brain with confusing memories that are clearly not her own.
Try as she might to control her mind and find a way home, Courtney cannot deny that she is becoming this other woman-and being this other woman is not without its advantages: Especially in a looking-glass Austen world. Especially with a suitor who may not turn out to be a familiar species of philanderer after all.

sounds like a fun read. thanks!!
The book is enjoyable, even for non-addict like me, and the reading is quite delightful, with the accents and everything. I find the inner chatter of Courtney's mind rather annoying, but then it's her character trait to overthink, so what can I say. I also would expect Courtney, an Austin addict as she claims, would maneveur her surroundings better than she does. The book falls short of its potential, and ends up merely an enjoyable chick-lit (well, maybe that's what the author aims for.)
The ending of the story is rather open, flexible of different interpretations, and when I look on Amazon, I find that there is a sequel to this book: Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict, which talks of Jane's experience as she wakes up in Courtney's body. I'd love to read that!

Here's a nice, safe middle-of-the-road rating. I didn't hate the book, but I don't think I gained anything by reading it either. Although funny at times, Courtney comes off more as a spoiled, rather vapid young woman. I didn't find her very likeable at all. Some of the ancillary characters, however, were more interesting and that saved the story for me.
I listened to this all the way through, but it wasn't a book that grabbed me and wouldn't let go. It just happened to be the book I had in the car that week, so it was the one I listened to on my commutes.
Elsi pulled this one from the audiobook VBB over on BookObsessed. I'll package this and a few other audios and get them in the mail to her as soon as possible.

Arrived in today's mail. I'm just about to venture out on a couple of trips in the car and am very glad to have plenty of audio books to take along.
