I recently moved into my boyfriend's flat. As a true test of how much he loves me, he agreed to give away many of his own books in order to make room for mine. Awww...
This is one of those discarded books. I hope it has a good journey and finds many new readers.

The first two thirds of this book were really gripping and excellent. Smilla comes across as a fantastic, intelligent and gutsy heroine. I liked the relationship between her and the mechanic. Greenlandic culture sounds fascinating!
But maybe I was just reading too fast for the last third, or maybe I was too busy with personal events to concentrate hard enough on the story. Whatever the reason, I literally lost the plot during that final section on the boat. I couldn't remember who each character was, I couldn't follow who was allied with who, and ended up desperatly trying to work out what was going on. My boyfriend remembers having a similar problem when he read the novel, though not as severe.
I'll be interested to read what the next person thinks.
