For Rebecca Bloomwood kunne ikke livet vært bedre. Hun har en godt betalt jobb i morgen-TV, et brukbart forhold til banken sin, og holder seg (iallfall noen ganger) strengt til sin nye leveregel: Kjøp bare det du virkelig trenger. Da hun også får sjansen til å jobbe i New York, føler hun det som om hun har trukket det store vinnerloddet. New York! Museum of Modern Art! Guggenheim-museet! Metropolitan-operaen! Det er hit hun skal. Men på veien svinger hun innom noen andre landemerker. Som Saks, Bloomingdales, Barneys og andre kjente butikker. Samt noen av de mange fantastiske lagersalgene der du kan få en Prada-kjole for ti dollar. Eller var det hundre? Livet er plutselig fullt av utrolige tilbud."
