This novel deals with the story of Eustace and Hilda, brother and sister. It looks at their childhood, setting the scene for the novel "Eustace and Hilda" which contains more about their adult lives. I read this many years ago, followed by Hartley's "The Go-Between" which is perhaps better known as a film. His writing is light and delicate, perfectly catching the spirit of the era in which it was written.
