Blood meridian is an epic novel of the violence and depravity that attended America's westward expansion, which brilliantly subverts the conventions of the Western novel and the mythology of the Wild West. Based on events that took place on the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s, it traces the fortunes of the Kid, a fourteen-year-old Tennessean who stumbles into a nightmarish world where Indians are murdered and the market for their scalps is thriving.

This really wasn't my cup of tea. I found the writing style made the book hard to concentrate on for any length of time and the content was, in places, very unpleasant. I'm not normally squeamish with anything fictional but this book made me feel very uncomfortable.

Still, another one crossed off the 1001 list. Just need to decide what to do with it now.
