The Shining

I had only seen the movie before and I was very surprised at the differences between them. They're huge! I bet there were a lot of pissed off people when that movie came out. The only similarities are the family, the hotel, and the canine costumed homosexual. There are many creepy things in the book that could have been in the movie, but the elements that are unique to the film are equally inspired.
I finally understand the meaning of the films closing scene where they tighten in on a shot of the photograph.
THe book is well written and the sense of forboding is there from the first chapter. King comes just shy of saying, "This man is going to flip out and kill his only son." As a father, I was unnerved for most of the book.
