I'm almost through this already, but I'll save my comment for later. ;)
Now I can totally understand why Rushdie isn't so highly regarded in the islamic world. His book tells the story of two men miraculously surviving an airplane bombing, but when they reach the floor, both of them transfigure. One of them becomes the archangel Gibreel, who dreams up the life of the prophet, in which he didn't have a say at all, and the other turns out to be the devil himself, at least phenotypically. A very interesting read. Some passages were a bit difficult for me to understand, but all in all I give the book 9 points for the interesting story.
