Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil reads like a work of fiction. It's hard to believe all the people in the book are real as some of the characters are very eccentric.
John Berendt moves from New York City to Savannah and begins to immerse himself into the lives of the local citizens, including Chablis, a black drag queen, Minerva, a voodoo witch, and Joe Odom, a squatter who gives provides tours and entertainment of whatever house he is currently residing in. Three three barely scratch the surface of all the people John meets and writes about in his book.
This book was an entertaining read and at times laugh-out-loud funny. I very much enjoyed getting to know these fine folks of Savannah.

An entertaining read. All the characters in this book are real although some names have been changed. It is almost hard to believe so many eccentric, unusual people could live in one town.
