It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.

I was initially hopeful, but ultimately disappointed in this book. I can't put my finger on what was missing, but I just couldn't sink my teeth into it...

From Barnes & Noble

Stephenie Meyer's thrilling debut novel is a love story with a bite. In this suspenseful and sensual tale, 17-year-old Isabella moves to a small town in Washington State and gets more excitement than she bargained for when she falls for an enigmatic classmate -- who happens to be a vampire. Filled with fantastic mystery and romance, it's a heart-stopping novel that captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires.
From the Publisher

The movie tie-in edition of the #1 bestselling trade paperback includes a collectible full-color, fold-out poster.

Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Bella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Bella, the person Edward holds most dear.

Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

Reserved for Rebekkila. Maybe it'll appeal to her more than to me. I guess teenage angst doesn't work when you're over half a century yourself. There was one, and only one, twist that I actually thought clever, but I don't want to say for fear of spoilers. But by the time I got to that twist, I was pretty fed up with Bella and her adoration of Edward and his alabaster beauty. Feh.

This is a tough one to write about. I love vampire novels and always have. I was bothered by how she twisted vampire lore to fit the needs of the story. I felt like she should have invented some other vampire like being instead of using vampires. The whole thing with them not being able to go into sunlight because they become dazzling made me laugh. The scene in the book where the vampires played baseball was ridiculous, until the bad guys showed up. The best line in the book was when the evil vampires realized that the people loving vampires had a human in their midst prompting one to say, "you brought a snack?" Bella's non stop worship of Edwards rocklike/ marble-like/granite-like physique was a bit much at times, as was her endless mooning over him. The dialog was cheesy, and the main character Bella was annoying. Yet, I will most likely read the rest of the series. I accidentelly read a spoiler and am interested in seeing where the story goes. I will be returning this to Bookczuk.

As much as I would have loved to release this book for The Reader Challenge (tie ins being both books made into movies, May-December romances (ha!), love that society can't accept), I paid good money for it and would rather get at least one more journal entry from it. (FWIW on GoodReads, I've tagged this book with "give me my time back".) So I am RABCKing it to a friend on BookCrossing. If he releases it for the challenge, maybe he can dedicate the release to me. :)

I struggled with this one, and am throwing in the towel. I don't quite get what all the hype is about, but hey, to each his own. Like bookczuk, I just can't put my finger on what it was I didn't like about it. Halfway through, when I still wasn't enjoying the story, and found myself not really caring about any of the characters, well, it's time to let go. I can't get the past week back, but I can prevent another from going down the drain. I will set this free soon, most likely at our OBCZ (which is closed for remodeling and should reopen very soon). Thanks again for sharing this and allowing me the chance to try it on for size.
