From the back:
She asked with the cold curiosity of a child, 'What would they do if they found you?'
'Shoot me.'
'You must be very frightened,'she said with interest. He felt his way across the barn towards the door and the pale starlight.
He said, 'I am frightened.'

Just finished the book. Thanks again for sending. Thought it started out a little slow, but he writes beautifully and in the end I found it very moving. It's the story of a priest on the run from the state during an anti-clerical purge in 1920s Mexico. The struggles of the opposing characters (the priest and the communist lieutenant) play out nicely. Think my husband will borrow it before it goes anywhere else.
