In the "total impulse-buy" category: a cookbook of deviled-egg recipes! I found this at a local BJs Warehouse Store, and as I do love deviled eggs I figured I'd see just how many variations there would be...
Later: LOTS of variations, that's how many, from basic recipes to elaborate spinoffs, and even a few dessert items - "devil's food eggs", anyone? [The recipe for the chocolate-egg filling sounds OK, but putting it into hard-cooked egg whites for serving just seems wrong to me!] There are some alcoholic recipes too: a "Dirty Martini" egg with vodka and green olives in it, and "Beelzebub's Bloody Marys" (which actually sound pretty good).
Among the recipes that appealed to me the most were "Ma-ma's Deviled Eggs" (a basic recipe), "Blue Devils" (blue cheese and bacon bits in the mix), "Satan's Skins" (a kind of potato-skins/deviled-egg hybrid), "Greek Eggs" (feta and olives), and - for that extra shot of deviltry - "The Devil Made Me Do It," with habanero hot sauce added, or "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" (habanero and peach). Oh, and the "Buffalo Horns," which are deviled eggs with buffalo-wing-hot-sauce flavoring.
It may take me a while to try all these, and if enough of them are keepers this book may not go traveling at all...
