The back blurb:
"There are very many reasons why British summers are either non-existent or, alternatively, held on a Thursday. Many of these reasons are either scientific, or mad, or both - but all of them are wrong, especially rhe scientific ones. The real reason it rains perpetually from January 1st to December 31st (incl.) is, of course, irritable Chinese water dragons.
"Karen is one such legendary creature. Ancient, noble, near-indestructible and, for a number of wildly improbable reasons, working as an estate agent, Karen is irritable quite a lot of the time. Hence Wimbledon. She becomes positively incensed, however, when she discovers her father, the Adjutant General to the Dragon King of the North-west, has been kidnapped by a mob of livid weathermen."

The dragons of this book remind me somewhat of the wizards of the Discworld, resigned to their lot and thoroughly perplexed by life in the real world, with a handful who are dangerously ambitious - after all, if you're near-immortal, your chances for promotion are slim unless you engineer them yourself.
Combined with the fact that while I was reading it the sun shone all the time, what is there not for me to like about this book? Weathermen, a good sly dig at media moguls, a thoroughly British obsession with the weather, and a doomed love story, seen through the warped vision of Tom Holt.

I have plans for this book, but they're on hold because Mrcodemonkey saw me writing it up and asked to borrow it. Since he sped through the last of my books so quickly I'll let him.

Going to leave this somewhere near the Weather Centre, it seems only fitting.

This was found the other day outside the BBC weather centre. I work for the BBC, alas not the weather department, but I do have an interested in weather, and very cool books. I also have heard of this type of thing, and think it is really cool.

Plan to read the book and set it free else where.

Interesting book, which i read quite quickly, just getting to release it into the wild has been problematic... sure it will find another new owner that will get a kick ou of the irony as well as the book.
