Wonderful. Can't wait to read this but it will have to go (near the top of) TBR pile until I've finished the two books I'm in process of reading.

Glad I read this one in a quiet period for me. The intensity of the author is very absorbing and yet this book flowed despite the jumps in time between various chapters.

Cover (part):
"Moving between London and Shangai of the inter-war years, When We Were Orphans is a story of memory, intrigue and the need to return; of a childhood vision of the world surviving deep into adulthood, indelibly shaping and distorting a person's life."

A good description of the book. My only negative comment is that the completely naive childhood vision is at severe odds with "the country's most celebrated detective" persona of the main character. However leaving that to one side, a very worthwhile read on the whole.

I intend to see if anyone wishes to swap this book before I think of wild releasing it.

Thanks for sending me this! I've been looking forward to reading this ever since I discovered he wrote Remains of The Day - my all-time favourite movie!

This book was slow-moving and ever-so-slightly depressing towards the end. Maybe I should stop wishing for happy endings all the time but it left me feeling a bit flat.
I'm looking forward to passing this onto another Kazuo Ishiguro fan!
Thanks for sharing it with me!
