I'm not a regular reader of detective novels, but this is no ordinary detective novel. It doesn't have that formulaic feel. That said, this is the only novel I had ever read by this author because, although I enjoyed it, I expect that her other novels would have been more of the same. I steer clear of genre fiction for the most part for that reason. This was fun...but more of the same would likely have been too much for me. The only series of detective type novels I have followed and enjoyed are the Thursday Next novels by Jasper Fforde (starting with The Eyre Affair) because they are so original and so much fun.
