This is one of a series which uses the same characters, featuring FBI agents, but I hadn't read any of the others in a couple years so I think it stands on its own OK.
Suspenseful with a twist of the supernatural (enough to make you wonder), plus some good old-fashioned family intrigues. It's about 375 pages and is a fast read.
