The house was deathly quiet. That was the first sign that something was terribly wrong. Fourteen-year-old Cynthia Bigge woke that morning to find herself alone. Her family - mother, father, and brother - had vanished without a word, without a note, without a trace. Twenty-five years later, Cynthia is still looking for answers. Cynthia and Terry Archer still live in Milford, Connecticut, not far from the old Bigge house on Hickory Street. With a solid marriage and a young daughter, the Archers seem on track for a successful future. But the questions raised by Cynthia's past still haunt her, and her obsession to find the answers threatens to destroy everything they've worked for. For Cynthia, there can be no closure until she finds out why her family disappeared - and how they could have left her behind.
Terry thinks the segment on the popular TV crime-stopper program Deadline is a mistake. But his wife hopes that someone watching will have a lead to her missing family. Sure enough, it's Cynthia who spots the strange car cruising the neighborhood, hears the untraceable phone calls, and discovers the ominous "gifts." And as Cynthia's nerves begin to unravel, no one's innocence is guaranteed, not even her own. By the time the first body is found, it's clear that her past is more of a mystery than she ever imagined - or may ever survive.
Someone has returned to this Connecticut town to finish what was started twenty-five years ago. And by the time Terry and Cynthia discover the killer's shocking identity, it will be too late even for goodbye

My father listened to this and enjoyed it
mailed today to Azuki who took it out of the Audio VBB
I am usually not a big fan of mystery & thriller but this sounds interesting, and the review seems pretty good too. Thanks!
The story is quite good, I like the plot, well paced, nice twists. I just wish the narration is better, everybody sounds so brisk and business like, including the old auntie Tess.
Passing on to Macaufan, thinking that he may enjoy it.

When Azuki told me about this book, about a girl who woke up to find her whole family vanished, I thought she meant some type of sci fi. :)
I enjoyed the story, with an ending that I couldn't guess, and yet the plot remains believable. Points off for the reader though.
This book will be given back to Azuki to put into a bookbox.

I think a status update is in order.
I started listening to this book on CD while driving to work this morning. I haven't gotten in very far but so far it is intriguing.
March 24: I'll probably finish this in the 20 minutes it takes me to get home from work today. I know pretty well what is/was happening in the story and why (I am in the dénouement of the story). I must admit that I had formed a hypothesis of what had occurred to Cynthia's family even prior to listening to the story that was totally wrong and another one while listening (very early on) that was even more wrong. I have been able to guess some of the plot points in the book prior to their revelation in the narrative but there is enough twists and little threads that it has kept me sitting in the car to listen to a little more of the story. I will finsih my evalutaion once I finish the book tonight.

Of course when I had reason to want to be in my car for a little longer, my commute was extra short.
I sat in my car for about 5 minutes listening to the end of this book. It was worth it even if all the best parts were over.
The main plot line had been explained by the time I got out of my car to go into work with just a few loose threads to tie up. I had successful guessed at least a few of these though when I originally had guessed one of them I didn't know why I had guessed it.
It was a good listen. I plan to share with my brother. I am sure he will enjoy it.
