I enjoyed this book, though I think the film by Anthony Minghella was actually better. The prose is beautifully poetic, but at times I felt the dialogue lapsed into long monologues which didn't feel like how a real person would talk. One of my favourite things about the book is the backstory about Kip's training in England to learn to defuse bombs. This was a fascinating insight into a little-known aspect of the 2nd World War.
