28 DAYS OF TERROR IN A HOUSE POSSESSED BY EVIL SPIRITS

In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their dream home, the same home where Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers and sisters just one year earlier.

The psychic phenomena that followed created the most terrifying experience the Lutz family had ever encountered, forcing them to flee the house in 28 days, convinced that it was possessed by evil spirits.

Their fantastic story, never before disclosed in full detail, makes for an unforgettable book with all the shocks and gripping suspense of The Exorcist, The Omen or Rosemary's Baby, but with one vital difference...the story is true.

Released on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at post office in fellow bookcrosser, postal release USA.

Sending to CurtAngel as part of an old trade! Sorry it to so long on my end!

Thanks. I've watched a lot of programs about this story, and it will be interesting to read the original book.

It's been said that this would be an average horror story if it were fiction, and I have to admit that. The main thrill that comes out of reading this is wondering, is it true? The first reference to this book I remember reading is one that seemed to suggest that it was an established cut and dry hoax. So, when I saw that there was a program about it, I watched it out of curiosity. To be so dismissive when (as far as I am aware) all the original participants of the book still stand by their claims seems a bit much. The wife says that they still haven't told everything that happened to them the night they left. Specifically she said that she felt what it was like to die that night.
However, it wouldn't be too hard to twist the facts that the book itself gives us to turn it around and make a case for a hoax. He was in extreme financial crisis, he looked up information on the Defeo case at the newspaper, a bartender told him about a "hidden room" and bad dreams regarding it, there seems to be a sympathetic priest (and how many people would consider a priest an unreliable witness?), and a sympathetic psychic. It really wouldn't be too hard to take some coincidences, a strange made up friend, and some bad dreams and make it sound like the devil is after you.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt that they believe they are telling the truth, I have been in houses that make you feel funny and act differently. I've lived in a couple. There are actually several somewhat scientific (?) explanations. 1. There is a poinsonous mold in the house. This house does live next to the lake and they did keep a lot of the Defeos stuff. If there was a mold growing there it would be in the furniture and such. I believe I have heard of people hallucinating and such because of mold, and that could explain the green stuff.
2. Positive ions. This isn't too scientific but there is a theory that "positive ions" building up in an area can cause hallucinations, and just general bad feelings. It can also increase illness and bad odors. This can be caused by standing water (the lake and the well underneath the house), and other things I don't immediately recall.
3. Chemical sensitivity. You know how stereotypical trailer trash is supposed to act? I've heard about normal happy families turning into trailer trash after moving into a trailer because of sensitivities to the chemicals used in those things. I don't know what chemicals it would be, but Ronnie (the murderer) might have been messing around with something in that secret room that he trashed after killing his family.
Some people are more sensitive to these things than others. My husband literally cannot go to my mother's house because when he gets there he starts seeing "things" out of the corners of his eyes.
As far as I know, none of the kids have denied the story. I might be wrong, now that I know the book I can pay more informed attention to the case next time its discussed.
One thing that did bother me was that the author seemed to glide past the possiblity of family problems before they entered the house, after all this is a second marriage, the kids aren't his and the boys did try to run away before they ever moved into the house. I'd hazard a guess and say that the kids might have done at least some of that stuff as a prank (the toilet's, at the very least).
I never read before this that the appearance of the devil is accompanied by the smell of human excement. That's interesting. What I want to know is, why are demons always Catholic?
I probably sound skeptical here, and I guess I am. But there is power in the rebuttal, if it was a hoax why would they drop everything in hopes of making money off of this story? What are the chances of someone agreeing to write it, much less it making any money? And if was natural, how come no one else who has lived there has had any problems?
I did think the suggestion that the practice of TM might have contributed to the problem was, well, interesting if nothing else.
I guess the thing that bothered me the most was the ending of the story. I mean, it seemed really Hollywood. I'm less inclined to believe it because of the ending.
Okay, I guess that's enough. Whether this was true or not, I was jumping at odd little noises in the house last night.
