I really enjoyed this book - I know almost nothing about Afghanistan, and the rise of the Taliban other than as news items and found this quite eye-opening. VThe characters were well painted especially Baba I felt. It was very well written though not as easily read in places - some very moving and episodes that made me wonder whether I wanted to read on (particularly when Amir rejects and sets up Hassan to assuage his own guilt), but of course had to and felt very satisfied with the book as a whole.
Best book so far in 2008. Now I can see the film.
I'd like to read more about life in Afghanistan (I have a few books on my shelf).
Now taking this to the Cherry Tree meet for beckydore who wishes to read it.

Thanks for bringing this to yesterdays meet at the Cherry Tree. Must update my wishlist.
I have previously read The Bookseller of Kabul so am probably more aware of the Taliban and effect on lives. A mix between placid and disturbing scenes. I had a mixed opinion to this novel.
Thanks for passing it on though!
