The true story of a chinese girl growing up and becoming politically aware in the communist China of the mid-20th century. Though I knew vaguely about the hardships and harsh regimes in China at this time, this book was an eye-opener. How the girl, Anhua, got through it is amazing. Of particular interest to me is that she was in correspondence with a school of english close to where I live and to where I will eventually release this book
