I bought this back in May for a teacher here who was looking for copies for a class project. She never PMed back me so I kept it and just got around to reading it.
It is a well written book but too predictable for me.
I offered as a RABCK last week and I'm finally getting around to registering it and mailing it out.
It is a popular book, I hope it will go on a journey.

Sorry it took so long for me to get around to reading this book. While it's not my favorite Picoult book, it is a well written book. And there were a few parts that surprised me. Will offer as a Ray It Forward and will be sending the book along soon.

Mailed book to crrcookie.

This book arrived in the mail today at Bolling AFB in Washington, D.C.

I have read some of the books by this author and some of them I have liked, some of them I struggled to finish, and others I couldn't stick with and passed them along only halfway through.

I fear for the safety of the children in schools and this is a book that I have wanted to read to see how Jodi Picoult deals with this horrifying issue.

I'll put this book pretty high up on Mt. TBR and I will offer it up to the members of BC in DC as soon as I am finished with it. If no one there wants it I may see if it wants to travel to Charleston to continue its Ray It Forward journey with a travelling BookCrosser.

This book hits hard. It shows the inside of the lives of some high school students and some reasons behind a school shooting. I am becoming increasingly scared of school and have decided to homeschool my child(ren) because I hate the idea that one must either "bully or be bullied". There is absolutely no reason that a child should have to be harrassed anywhere, especially at school and this book illustrates the horrors that can happen when a teen finds the absolute end of their tolerance.

The trial had some interesting twists and turns in it. In some ways I would have liked to see a bit more depth in that part of the story and a little less of the characters because I felt that they moved away from the storyline for a while.

Knowing Jodi Picoult's style I had worried a bit that I would get all the way to the end of the book and not find much resolution like it was supposed to be left up to the reader or something but I was relieved to read the ending. I was at the point that I didn't care which way things turned out as long as I got to find out a definite ending. I must say that I was very surprised at the truth when it comes out at trial although I am not sure that is at all the way things would have happened in real life. But the evidence was there along with the testimony so it seems that the ending is true.

I wonder how I would have voted on a jury in this case and it is certainly a situation where both sides have equally good points and the decision comes more to preserving the law as written or as an application of the circumstances.

This book will be offered to BC in DC or I'll take it with me to Charleston and offer it as a Ray It Forward to other BookCrossers there.

Not one of her better books. There are a few things you can count on in your average Picoult novel: a family or two with teenage children, police and/or lawyers, at least one romance, and a heaping helping of dysfunction. I get the impression that Picoult reads a headline and decides to write a story about it. Which is fine, but this book's Weighty Topic is school shootings, which reads a lot like a cross between We Need to Talk About Kevin and a Law & Order episode, with a generous sprinkling of high school stereotypes. The main characters were the shooter and his mother, the shooter's crush and her mother (a judge) and boyfriend (a bully/jock), and the detective. The whole story was just so tragic that I stopped caring how things turned out. It didn't help that I called the twist ending around halfway through the book. I've read some excellent books by Picoult; this just didn't happen to be one of them.

Busyangel decided she didn't want this book after all, so it's up for grabs.

This book is no longer in my possession. I'm pretty sure I handed it off to authorauthor when we went to see The Reader in Alexandria, VA, in early January.

Thanks to melydia for reminding me that I still have this book and never got around to journaling it! I'm a fan of Jodi Picoult's books, so I do want to read this one, even though most other readers think it's one of her weaker novels.
