Blackfly Season
5 journalers for this copy...
It's early summer in Algonquin Bay and the black flies aren't the only ones out for blood. Someone is trying to kill a young red-haired woman, but after being shot in the head with a small calibre weapon she cannot remember her own name or where she's from, let alone why anyone would want to hurt her. Then a body turns up, horribly mutilated. Wombat Guthrie, biker and drug dealer, has taken his last ride.
It seems inconceivable that the two cases could be linked, but as detectives Cardinal and Delorme pursue their investigations the name "Red Bear" keeps cropping up. A Ojibwa shaman, Red Bear has recently moved into the drug trade, enlisting the aid of the spirit world to direct his followers to rival gangs' drugs and money. In return, the "spirits" demand sacrifice—human sacrifice.
As the mysterious young woman slowly regains her memory, Cardinal begins to suspect that she may not be so innocent after all, and the her recovered "memories" may not be the whole truth. And what of Red Bear? Is he really a shaman? Or just another drug dealer with an appetite for brutal murder?
Somehow Cardinal and Delorme must find the answers before the spirits claim another sacrifice.

Book arrived safely today. Thank you iliotropio and aunt-sophie!
Very enjoyable crime novel. I loved the setting in Northern Ontario. I've holidayed in the Muskoka area so I used the scenery there to picture where the action was happening. Lots of action and storylines going on in this book and the pace was maintained throughout. I have discovered that Blunt is published in Britain and I will read more of his books.
Thanks for introducing me to this author, aunt-sophie.

A nice, easy thriller. Unfortunately it was soon quite clear where the story would end. I liked the cuban/Native American link!

The book came back home today! Thank you book-man-8 for returning it, and to all the members for making the ring run so fast and smooth!
It came from Kimmi's Canadian book box. It looks like Aunt-Sophie and I read similar books. :) lol. Another for my tbr pile.
A fast read. Interesting mystery with links to Algonquin Park, Toronto and other scenes in Canada. Blackflies are a theme thread throughout the novel but the mystery and killings are the main story.
