I'm really not a fan of his writing style. I find it affected and hard to read. It could have been a much more interesting story without it.
Haven't read yet - but did read "The Crossing", and enjoyed - which is why I sought this out. Well, maybe "enjoyed" is not exactly my experience; I find myself being "set up" by McCarthy for something to occur, and most often, the expected doesn't happen - but later, when you're not expecting anything, he springs it on you. Defintely a thinking reader's author.
