This is the book that the film was based on.

Question What would it be like to become IDI Amin's personal Physician?

This is the story of a young Scottish Doctor drawn intot he heart of the Ugandan dictator's surreal and brutal regime. Privy to Amin's thoughts and ambitions, he is both fascinated and appalled. As Uganda plunges into civil chaos he realizes action is imperative - but which way should he jump.

This is a multi award winning book.

Sorry it has taken me so long to read this book - homework is a pest, and too interfering.

I loved, loved, loved this book. Almost more than I loved the movie; which was very different from the book but in an interesting way. Giles Foden writes so convincingly as Dr. Nicholas Garrigan that you almost think that it was him who was a doctor for Idi Amin! Everything is described with such amazing detail and care, I found this book extremely engrossing and consuming.

Thanks so much for allowing me to be a participant in this Ring, Smurphie. I enjoyed reading this book very, very much.

Have PM'ed Kobie03 for their address, and will journal again when I have posted the book along.

the writing is beautiful, thus reading about such complex dark story is enjoyable. His descriptive detailed account of Amin's regime and his feeling for Africa keeps the reader's interest and shows his fascination with Amin while being appalled at his actions. A great read.
Will send on as soon as I get address for Megan2112

First of all- sorry for holding this book so long! Working two jobs has taken its toll on my reading time. Sending on to the next reader tomorrow. I really enjoyed this read. I found the doctor's fascination with Amin to be realistic. I can understand why he stayed, but was very relieved he made it out. I'm sure people with close relations to Sadam must have dealt with the same kind of situations. Fear vs. fascination. Thanks again for your patience - the book is on the move!
