We drove up to Vergt (about an hour north of here) to attend the Giant Book Sale, in aid of Phoenix Association Animal Rescue. I tried not to buy too many books, but they were all so lovely at €1 each and in aid of a good cause. What's a Book Crosser to do with such temptation? This is one of 'only' 17 I bought.

I really enjoyed this book. It has all the smells, sights and sounds of 17th century England. The characters are terrific, foibles and all. The scenery and social life is well researched and described. It really makes the story of the Gunpowder Plot come alive for me, in fact I learn more about history through well written historical novels than I ever did in school.
Sir Henry is a wonderful character and I will definitely be looking out for the following 3 books in this series.
This will be on its way to North Yorkshire this afternoon. Lyn - you'll love it!

Thank you, bluenoser. I'd forgotten this was heading my way, so it was a lovely surprise when it thudded onto the door mat this morning. It looks perfect for hiding from the ghastly wintry weather they've threatened us with over the next week, so is jumping to a fairly high spot on my TBR. Thanks again :-)

Well that was all very exciting! I could hardly put it down once I'd started. I just had to keep turning pages to see how it all worked out in the end - and I thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn of the plot, sub-plot, counter-plot and goodness knows what else, along the way. What a fascinating bunch of conspirators, spies, traitors, dealers, double-dealers, Old Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all!! I loved it. Thank you again, bluenoser.

I've a pretty good idea that spottedwoodie would enjoy this one but don't know when I'll next see her ...

It now looks as though I might not see spottedwoodie until April so I've put this into the hands of the Royal Mail (2nd class) for her. Enjoy!

I was so disappointed when it became obvious that I was not going to see Nu-Knees until April as I was looking forward to having this book passed on to me. So what a lovely surprise when it landed on my doorstep a couple of days ago! Having read the comments of previous bookcrossers, it definitely sounds "my" sort of book & I am looking forward to reading it sooner rather than later! I suspect that my husband & daughter may also enjoy it so will probably be passing it on within the family!

Very enjoyable read, believable account of the Gunpowder Plot. I look forward to reading more books by the same author.

I couldn't wait for my husband to finish reading this book so started to read it during the daytime while he was still reading it at night! I have thoroughly enjoyed the book, finding it very easy to read, & loved all the different characters & the convolutions of the plot. A very interesting account of the Gunpowder Plot, particularly as Guy Fawkes is a son of York & we lived in the area for many years. Can't wait to find the next books in the series. Many thanks to Nu-knees for sending this book on to me. I have now passed it on to my daughter in law to read on holiday before my daughter has her turn!!
