An odd, disjointed book from the great S. E. Hinton, until you know that it was actually a spec novel for Dan Curtis' remake of the classic Gothic soap opera _Dark Shadows_. NBC didn't give the series much of a chance, however, and plans for a line of novels were quashed. Hinton obscures names and locations, but essentially tells here the story -- one possible version of it -- of Barnabas Collins' rescuer and victim, Willie Loomis.
