I really like espionage books so this one was a natural draw. The plot is good, very good actually. Slight anti-climax at the end but hey ho.

Boyd's language is not as powerful as, say, Le Carre's, thus the characterisation is not as all-consuming as it could be, therefore only 7 out of 10. Page-turner and all that though.

Most interestingly, the book is written in first person, by two female narrators, alternating by chapter...by a male author. I don't think i've ever read this before. I'm really interested to know what a woman makes of Boyd's attempt to write first-person as two women, especially the more 'sensual' aspects of the narrative, if you know what i mean.
