A Respectable Trade

Picked up as a trade from the passenger paperback exchange bookshelf on the Sapphire Princess while cruising through New Zealand and Australia. Although I haven't read anything by this author, I've seen her name mentioned many times in the bookcrossing forums.
A novel of slave trading in 18th century Bristol, England and the impossible love between white slave owner Frances Scott Cole and the black African Mehuru, a priest and adviser to his king before being kidnapped and taken to England. The first 3/4 of the book gives an historical account into the horrors of slavery, but the ending turns into a melodramatic romance novel.

received from pinklady60 as a trade - i love this author and look forward to reading. Thank you!!
This was a good read. The beginning was a bit disturbing to me - humans through the centuries have behaved so badly. I really liked Mehuru.
