This is my favourite Mary Gentle and one of my all-time favourite fantasy novels, one I frequently come back to. Inventive, with great characters and an intriguing plot. Just lovely. Mmm yum. And now for a somewhat embarrassing sneaky admission - I offered my copy to eicuthbertson, after receiving a fabulous holiday surprise, the Tatooed Map, as part of the Christmas card swap. It was such a great suprise, that when I found Ash on eicuthbertson's wishlist, I offered it, thinking, about time I started parting with books I love as well as ones I don't love so much. Then I remembered how much fun I've had reading it, and it has a little inscription in the front from one of my best friends, and, and... well, I felt really torn about sending it off. Yes, I know, spirit of bookcrossing and all... so I bought another copy via abe books (GREAT 2nd hand site if you haven't seen it before, www.abebooks.com)... yeesh. BUT it's a lovely copy, it wasn't expensive, it arrived hugely quickly and even better, it came from Wales, so it's going to be a very well-travelled bookcrosser by the time it gets to you, eicuthbertson!!!

Great Book! Mary Gentle is one of my very favourite authors. This is a loooong book with small print, but worth the read.
