Got this book from my daughter along with a stack of other books that also contained another earlier book by this same author, Carol Shields: The Stone Diaries. That book won the 1993 Governor General's Award; this book was written in 1997.
While both of these books are ficitional they are biographical: the earlier Stone Diaries does in fact, tell one woman's story through 4 generations of life in Canada/US and has historical significance also depicting life there from 1905 to the 1990's. The fifteen chapters in Larry's Diary are all annotated with 'years'... starting in 1977 and ending in 1997.
