Different cover.

"Cambridge is sweltering, during an unusually hot summer. To Jackson Brodie, former police inspector turned private investigator, the world consists of one accounting sheet - lost on the left, found on the right - and the two never seem to balance. Jackson has never felt at home in Cambridge, and has a failed marriage to prove it. Surrounded by death, intrigue and misfortune, his own life haunted by a family tragedy, he attempts to unravel three disparate case histories and begins to realise that in spite of apparent diversity, everything is connected... This really exceeded my expectations! It had a pretty cover and an interesting blurb so I picked it up at a charity shop thinking it might be an ok read. It's beautifully written and the characters are brought to life vividly whilst switching from case to case and "now". I could hardly put it down and as the quote on the cover says "The sort of novel you have to start rereading the minute you've finished it". However this will be going to indygo88 as it was one of the options she chose in the Browse my Mt TBR Relay on BookObsessed. I may well pick up another copy to re-read later though!

Enjoy!

I really enjoyed this one, but it was difficult to read at lunchtimes with people talking loudly in the office. I felt like I needed to concentrate a bit harder on what was going on in order to figure it out. At the end it all tallies up and you figure out what has happened, but it certainly had me guessing for a while! Definitely unusual as a detective story, and one I would read again.

going to someone, as bigcurlyloz's previous entry

Very absorbing read, I love that the book finishes without the reader knowing exactly what happened to some of the peripheral characters.

Sending to Camis, Bookobsessed's Euroxchange Miss December.

Thank you! I recently read 'One Good Turn' by the same author and really enjoyed it, so added this to my wishlist. Heading to the rocky heights of Mount TBR for now...

An enjoyable read. I loved how the different stories were told from different perspectives and how they intermingled with past and present.
