The writing is excellent here, but this book is so unrelentingly sad I can't say that I enjoyed it. I felt so sorry for Ree (the young woman protagonist) that I couldn't appreciate the fine writing. I have read other stories along the theme of this one and haven't felt quite this way. This one is just too sad and hopeless for my taste.
