Ordinary People

I found this slightly-battered paperback in Nashua's Four Hills recycle center swap shop.
This is one of the rare cases where I saw the film before reading the book - and the film is as good, and even perhaps a touch better [although it's difficult to judge fairly when the film's performances are so strong]. Simply, it's an account of a family shattered by tragedy, focusing on the surviving son's struggles to climb out of his own guilt-induced depression. His parents, who have lost one son and almost lost the other, are trying to cope in their own ways - but the strain is revealing weak points in their relationships that might never have surfaced otherwise... It's painful and hopeful, both, and well worth reading [or watching!].

I found the book where it was last left, at Jake's Ice Cream in Amherst, NH. This is my first encounter with Book Crossing. What a neat idea.
