Paperback.
From the back cover:
As a girl, Joan Richards hides behind the protective wall of home and family. But as a young woman, her security is shattered when, one by one, the family slips away. And Joan realizes that the empty walls of home are nothing but a shell.
In desolation, she flings herself into marriage, only to find herself in a new prison of loneliness. Hope for happiness revives with the birth of her baby-- but is painfully dashed by the discovery that the child is retarded. At last, from the depths of her despair, Joan breaks loose. Uncertain of what lies ahead, she becomes confident that her "day is still at noon".

I have not had time to read this novel, so I've decided to pass it on to someone else in hopes they will enjoy it.

I caught this book from Trekwoman, Trekwoman's terrific mom told me about Bookcrossings. A couple of days after our conversation, a package from Trekwoman arrived in the mail. In the package were two books, this one and another book titled "Liars and Saints". Thank you, Trekwoman for sending these. I look forward to a great read:))
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading period pieces. The story begins in the year 1920 and ends in the early 1930's. It is beautifully written using simple, yet engaging language.
