It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.

I was given my first graphic novel at the BC MeetUp in Houston back in June, Watchmen. It came highly recommended. I read my first graphic novel, The Road to Perdition, earlier this week. I'm very intrigued with the whole notion of graphic novels and I look forward to giving this one, with a female protagonist, a read. Thanks, stephc!

My attempts to try out the graphic novel genre have been, thus far, terribly unsuccessful. The dialogue is insipid and the plots tediously banal. I'm very disappointed.

Strange little graphic novel... Never heard of the author. His style is heavily influenced by European caroonists. Tintin came to mind.

The story was cute, then got really UGLY! (Not that I mind.) Didn't have much of an ending, though. He's a good graphic storyteller, but I'd like to see better plot development.

Another of Keith's great graphic novel collection. It looks quite engaging with descriptive cells telling most of the story through body language, setting, tone, and other actions. I will read this one carefully.

Bee, the main character, is so cute! The story is told through the pictures, and i reread parts to catch the details missed the first time around. The story writes itself in your head . . . . the images are explicit, violent, and gruesome, and the characters are all photographers so there is plenty of it.

It is hardbound and in excellent condition, with a colorful, attractive, sleeveless cover.

From the bookcrossing Meet Up tonight. I had never read a graphic novel before. I didn't know what to expect. I read it in one sitting. I liked it. Maybe because I'm a photographer myself I found characters portrayed in the form of photographs to be nothing out of the ordinary. Although the plot wasn't particularly complex, it is a detective story and interesting. Worth the time to read.

This seems to be a hit at meetup, so I took it this month. I should be able to fit it in soon.

I guess I'm just not ready for "graphic novels". This brought back my childhood of comic book reading, only I read the funny ones, not the violent ones. This is my second graphic, and I preferred 'Persepolis' to this one. It's sort of like reading the dialog while watching a foreign movie, only easier to do. At least it was quick - I didn't waste a lot of precious time on it. Back it goes to the December meetup.

And Shutterbug Follies returned to me....I'll have to save this book for the next BookCrossing box coming my way....

Released on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at Postal System: BookRelays in Alvin, Texas USA.

I'm mailing this off to a BCer in NY today! She chose this book in a relay. Enjoy!

Received last night from debnance as a book relay. I read it in one sitting. It's very cute and well-drawn, but the resolution felt a little rushed. That, and Dee is the most unethical photo-processor in the city of New York! ;)

I'm sending this as part of a trade to gwendy. Enjoy!

Thank you, Qwendy!

Very interesting. I loved the snapshot-style artwork, and it was a fun and easy read. Oddly enough, the most common problem in any kind of story is having a brilliant idea and a poor execution... Shutterbug Follies, rather, had a mediocre idea and brilliant execution. The plot is rather dull - something you might find in any dime mystery novel - but (again) the odd little things that are woven into the story are quite intriguing. I'd be interested to see where the artist/author has gone in a few years.
